The most ancient medical science that makes the use of natural herbs, spices, and other products and that is said to be originated from the Vedas, in Ayurveda. Since time immemorial this science has helped the masses to keep in good health. The popularity of this age-old science has now grown worldwide. For many minor and also major issues Ayurveda is helping the masses to keep them in good health. Cold and cough is a viral problem and in allopathy, there is no treatment of any viral disease. However, in our old Indian system of medicine, there is definitely a cure for this problem.
Ayurveda offers the following treatments for this nasty problem:
1.
Tulsi: Tulsi or Holy Basil is considered a sacred plant and found in
almost every household of India. It has so many benefits that it is also called
‘Mother Medicine of Nature’. Its consumption boosts the production of
antibodies in the human body, in this way it helps in fighting infections. The
leaves can be chewed, drank in tea, and added to a kadha. In this way, you can
have quick and fast relief.

Ginger: It is a well-known natural
treatment for cough and cold. It can be consumed either in fresh form or as dry ginger in the form of powder. It can be taken with honey for treatment.
Its anti-inflammatory properties help in the treatment of sore throat. It can be taken in the tea or mixed with honey
for better results.
3.
Honey: It is an excellent medicine in Ayurveda for flu and phlegm. It
has antimicrobial properties. It has great properties to help loosen mucus and
provide relief from the congestion of the chest. Not only is this good for the problems related
to the throat, but it is also good for the tongue.
4.
Giloy: Giloy or Guduchi is also known as Amrita for its medicinal
properties. It is used as a natural remedy for many ailments related to the throat.
It is an excellent immunity booster. After the pandemic Covid 19, it has become a
household name in India. It is also good for managing tonsillitis. It can behave in the form of juice, tablets, and also kadha.
5.
Mulethi: Mulethi also known as licorice is a bitter-tasting herb and it
has been long used for the problem of flu, and other problems of throat and cold.
It has anti-inflammatory properties that help in thinning the mucus in the
nasals. Its powder can be added to the warm water and drunk. Mulethi extract
can be gargled and you can drink it by adding it to tea or kadha.
6.
Pippali: Also known as long pepper is the best treatment of cough in
Ayurveda. Its nature is hot and it has expectorant properties. It helps loosen
mucus and thus gives relief from congestion. It also provides relief from headaches due to
cold. You can consume it by adding its powder to a spoon of honey and then you
should swallow it.
7.
Garlic: The use of garlic for allergy due to cold is very much known in
this system of medicine. It has antimicrobial and antiviral properties that
make it a very good remedy for treating this problem.
8.
Turmeric Milk: A glass of milk with half a teaspoon of turmeric can be very
beneficial for the throat. It helps in soothing the throat. Turmeric has an active agent curcumin that
has anti-viral, anti-microbial, and anti-inflammatory properties. These properties
help in treating infections. To avoid any sort of irritation, it should be
drunk at night before sleeping.
9.
Pomegranate Juice: In his book, Dr. Vasant Lad has suggested
that it is a brilliant remedy for kids. Add a pinch of ginger powder along with
pippali powder. Pomegranate juice has a
mild effect on the throat and has soothing properties. It is rich in vitamins A
and C that boost immunity.
Coughing increases at night while sleeping. The reason is that the
mucous drips from the nose into the throat when you lie down. This situation
can be tackled by keeping the head in a higher position. Moreover one should
avoid taking allopathy medicines since these medicines give only momentary
relief and they have lots of side effects.
